The Marksman guide

Marksman is the free plan, and it is where every Qual8 shooter starts. Set up your account and your rifle, shoot Range Sessions on every rifle you own, and earn Hunt Qualified. If you are on Sharpshooter or Handloader, these steps are yours too.

Your path, in order

Marksman, step by step

  1. At home
  2. Make your account Email, password, then the confirmation link.
  3. Pick your screen name The one name Qual8 shows on your screens.
  4. Set your shooter profile MOA or MIL.
  5. Add your rifle Cartridge, barrel length, twist rate, and what you use it for.
  6. Add your ammunition Factory boxes, or a quick entry for a handload. Handloaders build a full handload instead.
  7. Tell Qual8 about your chronograph Yours, or No chronograph.
  8. At the range
  9. Shoot a Range Session Setup, shoot, photograph the target, check the holes, read the result. The step you will repeat most.
  10. When you want more
  11. Earn Hunt Qualified (HQ) Five single shots from a field position. Free on every plan.
  12. Run a Precision Baseline The group size your rifle and ammunition repeat, not just your best group.

Between range days

Keep the barrel's record straight

Qual8 counts the rounds from every session you accept. Tell it about the rest, and the count stays true.

Rounds fired outside Qual8

  1. Open the rifle, then Rifle Performance History, then press the Barrel Round Count box. It reads "Tracker →".
  2. Press + Shot Record. Give the date, the type and the number of rounds, then Save Record.

A cleaning

  1. On the same screen press + Cleaning Record, give the date, then Save Record.

Why it matters

"Shots since cleaning" restarts when you save the record, so log a cleaning the day you do it. Range Setup shows the count beside the rifle every time you start a session.

A new barrel

  1. Press + Install New Barrel, give the date and its starting rounds, then Save Record.
